SALISBURY, Md. -- Salisbury University Police have arrested a suspect in the sexual assault and attempted rape incident which happened behind Maggs Gymnasium in the early morning hours of Saturday, March 31.
Salisbury University Police say Maurice L. James Jr., 19, of Salisbury has been charged with attempted first-degree rape as well as numerous related offenses. He is currently behind bars in the Wicomico County Detention Center pending bond review.
"This case is extremely significant to us because it involves the safety of a student on campus," said SU Police Chief Edwin Lashley. "I'm grateful for the hard work done by so many and the support we've received across campus and beyond during the investigation."
University Police have been working around the clock on the case following the weekend incident on the Salisbury University campus.
