BRIDGEVILLE, Del. - A Harrington man is behind bars after reportedly leading police on a high speed chase through Bridgeville, Monday. Delaware State Police report that they stopped a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis, driven by Robert Levan, 29, for a traffic violation around 6:50PM near Seashore Highway and Oak Road. Police say that Levan initially pulled into the right shoulder, and then fled in a reckless manner at a high rate of speed. They say that the trooper followed behind.
Police report that at one point in the chase a responding trooper avoided a head on collision with Levan by swerving into the shoulder. They say that Levan continued driving fast and aggressively onto Route 13 South, and hit another car crossing over Route 46. Police say that the chase finally came to an end on Evans Drive when Levan lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a wooded area. Police say that Levan proceeded to flee on foot but was apprehended a short time later.
Levan has been charged with reckless driving, driving under the influence of a drug, and other related charges, and held at the Sussex Correctional Institution.
