Milford Man Dead Following Barricade Situation, Fire

MILFORD, Del.- Delaware State Police are investigating the death of a 42-year-old Milford man following a barricade situation and fire that occurred at a home on the 1000 block of Pecan Avenue on Friday evening.
According to police, troopers were dispatched to the home at approximately 7:15 p.m., after receiving a 911 call from a man who stated that he was armed and intended to harm himself.
Troopers said that upon arrival they were unable to make contact with the man and consequently set up a perimeter around the home, evacuated several nearby homes and closed several roads in the area as a precaution. Police said members of their conflict management team then arrived at the scene and also attempted unsuccessfully to make contact with the barricaded man.
Police said observed light smoke coming from within the home, followed by heavy smoke and a fire on the first floor garage area at approximately 11:30 p.m.
Firefighters from Milford's Carlisle Fire Company were able to extinguish the fire, at which time the DSP Special Operation Response Team entered the home and located the body of the 42-year-old man in the garage.
Police said an autopsy will be performed on the victim to determine the exact cause of death.
The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation by the Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office
