BRIDGEVILLE, Del.- Delaware State Police arrested a Georgetown man with DUI and related offenses after the car he was driving collided with a tractor-trailer in Bridgeville early Friday.
Troopers said the incident occurred shortly after 6 a.m., as 25-year-old Pedro Hernandez was operating a 1997 Toyota Celica eastbound on Seashore Highway (SR 404) west of Bridgeville.
Police said Hernandez drifted into the westbound lanes of SR 404 near Adamsville Road as 53-year-old Randall B. Merritt was traveling westbound while operating a 1999 Peterbilt Tractor Trailer.
Authorities said Merritt was able to bring his truck onto the shoulder of the road before the Celica struck the rear wheels of the unloaded trailer. The trailer then road up over the car before both vehicles came to a stop on the roadway.
Hernandez and his two passengers were removed from the scene by EMS and transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Hernandez was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without a valid license, and no proof of insurance.
Merritt was not injured in the crash, according to investigators.
The roadway was closed for close to an hour as the crash was investigated and clear
