SOMERSET, Co., - Starting in September, Somerset County high school students will be required to wear uniforms. The Board of Education voted unanimously to expand the initiative. Officials plan to add provisions to allow principals the option to hold casual and dress-for-success days. The uniform policy is already in place for younger students.
Rene McLaughlin, the Supervisor of Student Services in Somerset County says, "Well we're hoping that overall our students will be more focused on learning. It is our hope that the uniform expansion would help us certainly in the event of a crisis and when our students go on field trips their easily identified."
School officials say there will be help for low-income families who can't afford uniforms.
