SOMERSET COUNTY, Md. - A Somerset County organization wants high school seniors to follow in their footsteps. Students can make their way from the educated to the educator, with the help of a scholarship fund. It's one of the most rewarding careers. Educating our youth and preparing them to become future doctors, writers, innovators, and educators. The Somerset County Retired School Personnel Association wants to help point you in that direction.
"These scholarships are geared towards someone who wants to be a school teacher or go into the teaching profession in some way," said retired 5th grade teacher, Catherine Brown.
They've got two checks written out for $1,000 each. One for a student at Washington High and another for a student at Crisfield High. Community and extracurricular activities, along with work experience will play a major role in the decision making process.
"We want to have students who are involved in the community and involved with people because if you're going into teaching, that's what you're going to be working with," said Brown.
She spent 35 years of her life in the classroom, 12 of those in Somerset County schools.
"Students who want to be educated and who have a mindset to be educated, can be educated anywhere," said Brown.
The deadline to apply is April 16th. For more information call DEF at 410-219-3336. Or click on the DEF logo on our home page
