Farmers Bank Of Willards Has $5,000 For Students

- A local community bank has cash flowing to our future. They're offering scholarship money for students, not only looking to attend a local college, but also looking to begin their career on Delmarva. What started out as a small investment, has grown into a major money fund for college goers.
"We wanted to get involved in the educational process and we used to just have a small $500 scholarship that was the Farmers Bank of Willards Scholarship.
We wanted to expand that to not only Wicomico County, but Worcester and Somerset Counties," said bank President Chris Davis.
He says $5,000 is available, usually split between four or five students struggling to pay for higher education.
"We're not necessarily looking for someone who is at the very top of their class, with 4.0's every single year they've been there, we want a solid, well-rounded student," said Davis.
What they are looking for is a student attending a college or university in Delaware, Maryland, or Virginia. Davis says he recognizes real talent here on the shore, and often sees those individuals leave the area. He says this scholarship is for the future innovators that will keep our local economy growing.
The scholarship is also open to Sussex County students. The deadline to apply is April 13th. For more information contact DEF at 410-219-3336
