DOVER, Del. (AP)- Registered sex offenders would be barred from living or working within 500 feet of a commercial day care center under an ordinance ratified by the Dover City Council.
The City Council also approved a new curfew for teenagers on Monday.
Councilman Sean Lynn says he introduced the sex offender measure to close a loophole in state law, which he says restricts sex offenders' proximity to schools but not to day care centers.
The American Civil Liberties Union state affiliate opposed the restriction.
The curfew ordinance will be in effect from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays and from midnight to 6 a.m. on weekends. It applies to teenagers under the age of 17.
