University Police Make Arrest for Attempted Rape

SALISBURY, Md. -- Salisbury University Police arrested a suspect in the sexual assault and attempted rape incident which happened behind Maggs Gymnasium in the early morning hours of Saturday, March 31.
Salisbury University Polices say Maurice L. James Jr., 19, of Salisbury has been charged with attempted first-degree rape as well as numerous related offenses. He is currently incarcerated in the Wicomico County Detention Center pending bond review.
"This case is extremely significant to us because it involves the safety of a student on campus," said SU Police Chief Edwin Lashley. "I'm grateful for the hard work done by so many and the support we've received across campus and beyond during the investigation."
University Police have been working around the clock on the case following the weekend incident.
They released video of a "person of interest" but at this time it's unclear if James is the same person who is in that video.
Anyone with information is asked to call the University Police Department at (410) 543-6222 or you can report anonymously online at www.salisbury.edu/police/Silent_Witness
