Suspect Arrested for 3 Burglaries in West O.C.

WEST OCEAN VIEW, Del.- Police have arrested a suspect accused of breaking into three homes in the Delmarva Trailer Park on Golf Course Road in West Ocean City.
The Worcester County Bureau of Investigation said that on April 4, a concerned citizen walking on Golf Course Road observed a trailer in the Delmarva Trailer Park with its front door wide open and a large screen television sitting on the floor just inside the door. The citizen, who observed the glass portion of the door to be shattered, contacted 911 to report a possible burglary.
Maryland State Police arrived and determined a burglary had taken place. The investigation was turned over to the Worcester County Bureau of Investigation. It was learned that the victim resided in Pennsylvania and had no knowledge of the burglary to his summer home.
The Maryland State Police Crime Lab was contacted and responded to collect forensic evidence from the home. WCBI detectives, along with state troopers canvassed the Delmarva Trailer Park and spoke with several witnesses.
During the investigation, police developed 51-year-old Joseph Bernard Kelly Jr. as a suspect. Police said a search warrant was obtained for his home on Golf Course Road and numerous items were recovered from the burglary. Kelly was arrested and charged with first-degree burglary, malicious destruction of property and theft less than $1,000. He was held on $15,000 bond.
Kelly was also developed as a suspect in two other burglaries that had occurred in the same trailer park. According to police, there was evidence located in Kelly's home that linked him to the other two burglaries. He was subsequently charged with two additional first-degree burglary charges along with theft $1,000 to under $10,000.
A preliminary hearing has been set in for April 30 in the District Court for Worcester County in Snow Hill.
