EASTON, Md. - An off duty Montgomery County police officer is dead after a high speed chase. A Maryland State Trooper stopped Jed Bylsma, 30, of Pennsylvania, for allegedly speeding on Route 50 in the early morning hours of April 9th.
During the stop the officer reported signs of the driver being under the influence. While the officer went back to his patrol car, Bylsma allegedly took off driving back down Route 50 at a high rate of speed. The trooper was able to stop Bylsma with stop sticks. Officials say Troopers gave several instructions for the driver to exit the vehicle and finally approached to find Bylsma had taken his own life.
The investigation of this incident is ongoing.
