Laurel Teacher Arrested

Teacher allegedly tied students' hands LAUREL -- A North Laurel Elementary School teacher is on suspension pending the outcome of an investigation into claims she allegedly tied the hands of two students with neckties.

Police said on Feb. 7, 61-year-old Nyazina Custis of Bivalve, a special education teacher for the Laurel School District, allegedly tied the hands of two fourth-graders behind their backs after the students failed to follow directions.
A second teacher in the classroom told Custis to untie the students and then notified a supervisor.
Custis, who turned herself in to police on Friday, was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and unlawful imprisonment and later released on unsecured bond.
