WOODSIDE, Del. - An early morning motor vehicle crash claims the life of a Harrington woman.
Delaware State Police say the incident happened around 1:00 a.m. Monday morning on U.S. 13, south of Walnut Shade Road. Police say the 57-year-old Harrington woman was driving her Pontiac Sunbird either very slowly or stopped in the right lane of the southbound lane. That's when authorities say 33-year-old Marlena Korona, of Felton, ran into the back of the Sunbird in her Chevy Tahoe. The Sunbird was pushed about 133 feet on the roadway and the Tahoe overturned on the driver's side into a ditch, officials say.
Authorities say the woman operating the Sunbird, who was not properly restrained, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. They say Korona and a five year old passenger in her vehicle, who were properly restrained, were taken to Kent General Hospital where they were treated and released for minor injuries.
U.S. 13 southbound at Walnut Shade Road was closed for about two hours as a result of the crash. It has since been re-opened.
