NEWARK, Del.- Newark police have arrested a University of Delaware police officer accused of harassing a female student who ended a relationship with him.
Police arrested 31-year-old Demetrius Sharp of Kennett Square, Pa., on Wednesday following a an investigation that got under way in February. Police said the 21-year-old student ended a relationship with Sharp on Feb. 18, then began receiving harassing text, email and voice messages from him over the next three days.
Authorities also said Sharp tried to contact the woman while on duty as a uniformed police officer, including parking outside her home and shining a spot light from his patrol vehicle into her windows.
Sharp, who is on administrative leave from the university, turned himself in to the Newark Police Department on Tuesday, May 2. He was charged with three counts of harassment and one count of official misconduct before being released on $4,000 unsecured bond.
