FEDERALSBURG, Md.- Maryland State Police say an inmate who walked away from a work release program in Caroline County is back in custody.
Police said 32-year-old Jeremiah Lee Windon, an Eastern Pre-Release Unit inmate, had work detail on a farm near Federalsburg on late Tuesday morning and walked away, even though he was under the supervision of officers.
Authorities conducted a ground and air search for Windon, which ended at around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, when he was located in a farm field off of Possum Hill Road in Caroline County. He was taken into custody and charged with first-degree escape, with additional charges pending. In addition, a retake warrant has been issued and will be served on Windon.
Maryland court records show Windon was serving time for an assault conviction. He also had previous convictions for burglary and armed robbery.
