Heroes to be honored in Princess Anne

PRINCESS ANNE -- Town Commissioners will honor volunteer firefighters and two local heroes for their actions during a fuel tanker truck fire on Route 13.
Darryl Webster and Bobby Murphey, who pulled the drivers of both vehicles involved in the accident to safety, will be recognized during Monday night's town meeting, said Town Manager Brenda Benton.
"We also want to thank the entire (Princess Anne) volunteer fire department for what they do all the time," she said.
On Jan. 9, a Delmarva Oil tanker truck driven by Monel Charles, 39, of Salisbury was heading northbound on Route 13 when it collided with a car headed east on Mount Vernon Road driven by Ann Haffner, 94, of Princess Anne at about 2:30 p.m., according to town police.
Charles swerved, which caused the truck to flip. He was able to get out before it burst into flames, police said.
Webster and Murphey, who were witnesses at the scene, pushed the car, with Haffner still inside, away from the burning truck. They also carried Charles farther away from the fire after he collapsed in the road, police said.
