Truck Trailer Overturns Near Bridgeville

BRIDGEVILLE, Del.- Delaware State Police are investigating a Tuesday crash that left a truck trailer overturned on Cannon Road (SR 18) and Wesley Church Road south of Bridgeville.
Police said the accident happened at approximately 7:30 a.m. as 36-year-old Paul A. Taylor of Dover was operating a 2000 GMC attenuator truck and traveling southbound on Wesley Church Road and approaching a stop sign at the intersection with Cannon Road.
Troopers said Taylor failed to remain stopped at the stop sign and entered into the intersection where he struck a 2000 GMC 6500 series truck towing a John Deere tractor on a flatbed trailer.
Police said the driver of the GMC 6500 truck, 61-year-old Ronald S. Bennett of Preston, Md., was not required to stop as there were no stop signs for eastbound and westbound traffic on Cannon Road.
Police said the impact of the collision forced the trailer to slide sideways and eventually overturn, causing the tractor to become dislodged from the trailer. The truck, with the trailer still attached, were left blocking the entire roadway. The attenuator truck was able to come to a controlled stop on the roadway.
There were no injuries as a result of this crash and the roadway was closed for approximately two hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
Taylor was cited for failure to remain stopped at a stop sign.
