SALISBURY, Md. - Salisbury University's "Taking Excellence to New Heights" six-year-long campaign went out with a bang.
The university's original goal of 25 million was surpassed by almost 15 million - reaching a grand total of nearly 40 million dollars.
Dr. Rosemary Thomas, Vice President of Salisbury University was surprised at the success of the campaign. Drawing over 23,000 donors, a big chunk of the money did not come from big donors. "We thought that more of the final number would've been born on the backs of the larger donors," said Thomas. A large grassroots effort greatly reflected the support that the community has for the university. "I think what people are seeing now is a greater sense of pride that the community is taking in the school - certainly a greater sense of pride among the alumni," said Thomas.
The money was designated to go towards academic programs and facilities, campus improvements, community outreach opportunities and scholarship funding. The Teacher Education and Technology Center, May Literacy Lab, and Nabb Research Center will all reap the benefits of the campaign. Most of the money is designated to go towards scholarship funding.
