Salisbury City Council votes down Hoppes as fire chief



SALISBURY - The City Council majority has voted against Mayor Jim Ireton's candidate for the position of fire chief.
A 3-2 vote ousted Acting Chief Rick Hoppes as a candidate for the position left vacant by Jeff Simpson.
Council President Terry Cohen, Council Vice President Debbie Campbell and Councilman Tim Spies voted against appointing Hoppes as chief, and Councilwomen Laura Mitchell and Shanie Shields voted in favor of his appointment.
The vote was taken in closed session tonight. Delmar Daily has uncofirmed information that Larry Dodd, a current Salisbury fire fighter and a Baltimore City fire fighter, are being reviewed for the fire chief position.
