Salisbury Man Arrested Following Reports of Shots Fired in Fruitland

FRUITLAND, Md.- Fruitland Police say Derick Cline, 34, of Salisbury was arrested early Sunday morning following reports of shots fired on Ridgefield Lane in Fruitland.

According to Fruitland Police, they responded to the scene shortly after midnight, at which time they discovered the suspect vehicle attempting to leave the area. Police say they conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and ordered the occupants to exit.

Police say Cline, a passenger in the vehicle, then became disorderly, assaulted an officer and attempted to kick out a police car window. They say Cline subsequently made numerous threats to the officers present as well specific elected officials.

Additional units arrived at the scene, discovering Cline had discharged a semiautomatic handgun inside of a residence, narrowly missing a resident. Police say Cline then ran off with the gun.

Following a search of the area, officers discovered the weapon, a 9mm handgun, which they believe was thrown from the vehicle. Police say a 9mm shell casing was found at the residence, in addition to unused 9mm ammunition in Cline's possession.

Cline was arrested and transported to the Wicomico County Detention Center and released to Central Booking. He now faces a total of eight charges, including; handgun on person, handgun in vehicle, reckless endangerment, threats to an elected official, resisting arrest, assault against law enforcement, obstructing and hindering and malicious destruction of property.
