SALISBURY, Md.– A Salisbury man is behind bars following accusations that he intentionally set fire to a building over the weekend.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office on Monday took 44-year-old Eddie O. Davila into custody on an arrest warrant charging him with second-degree arson, malicious destruction of property- less Than $500, and second-degree malicious burning. He is being held in the Wicomico County Detention Center in lieu of $35,000 bond.
Davila's arrest stemmed from a fire that occurred at around 1:31 a.m. Sunday, March 18, on the 200 block of Walston Avenue. The fire involved a 18-foot by 24-foot masonry constructed detached residential garage.
Members of Salisbury Fire Department Station #2 responded to the incident and brought the fire under control within 10 minutes. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
Deputy State Fire Marshals determined that the fire was incendiary and originated at a sofa inside the garage. Investigators said they further determined that Davila intentionally doused the sofa with an accelerant and had used a cigarette lighter for ignition.
Authorities said that if convicted of the charges, Davila faces up to 21.5 years in prison or $31,000 in fines or both.
