MILFORD, Del.- Delaware State Police say a former Kent County Sheriff has been arrested after violating a court order.
Police said James Higdon Jr., 59, of Dover was arrested Wednesday evening after calling and threatening harm to a former family member and two others.
Troopers said they found Higdon sitting in the parking lot of Walgreens located on North West Front Street in Milford. Upon taking Higdon into custody, police said they found a loaded handgun inside his vehicle. According to police, Higdon is prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition after having been committed to a psychiatric facility in March of last year.
Higdon was transported back to Troop 3 in Camden where warrants were obtained for his arrest. While in custody, Higdon required medical treatment, which was unrelated to his arrest, and was transported to Kent General Hospital for treatment. While at the hospital, he was turned over to the Department of Corrections due to a violation of probation.
Police said Higdon will also be arraigned on the charges of stalking (three counts), carrying a concealed handgun, possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited, breach of release driving under the influence of alcohol and other traffic related offenses
