PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (WBOC/AP)- Maryland State Police say two state troopers fired at a suspect during a chase, killing the man in Somerset County.
State Police said an investigation is under way after the fatal shooting Wednesday night. Investigators said a trooper was called about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday to check out a suspicious person at Manokin Manor nursing home near Princess Anne.
Police said a Somerset County deputy sheriff arrived first, and the vehicle fled. State troopers joined a police chase, and eventually the vehicle came to rest in a ditch.
Investigators said at least two troopers approached the vehicle on foot. Two troopers apparently fired shots as they approached the vehicle. The driver was then found with an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Police said the deceased man's name is not being released until he is positively identified, and his family is notified.
