DEAL ISLAND, Md. - Somerset Emergency Services are responding to reports of a plane going down off the coast of Deal Island.
Natural Resources Police tell WBOC someone in Wenona heard a plane fly low overhead and then hit the water around 5:45 p.m.
Police have reached out to Salisbury-Wicomico Regional Airport, Ocean City Airport and other radar installations. There are no reports yet of any distress calls.
Multiple fire companies were called to the scene just after 6 p.m., including Salisbury, Allen and Westside from Wicomico County.
NRP says the a Coast Guard is helicopter is not responding due to weather conditions.
According to officials, the search is ongoing in the Tangier Sound. No debris was found as of 9 p.m. Saturday
