FRUITLAND, Md.- Authorities have ruled as accidental an early Monday fire that destroyed a house near Fruitland early Monday.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office said the blaze broke out shortly after 6 a.m. at a 1-and-half-story home located at 29584 Mill Stream Drive.
It took 35 firefighters approximately one hour to place the fire under control. There were no reported injuries. The home's two occupants were able to escape just moments before it exploded.
The fire caused an estimated $250,000 in damage to the home and another $100,000 in damage to its contents.
Investigators determined the fire started in an attached garage due to a natural gas furnace malfunction.
The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced occupants.
