Salisbury police said that at around 1:37 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, 52-year-old Dennard Harper Cannon walked into the lobby of police headquarters and told officers that he had just stabbed his girlfriend and believed he had killed her.
Cannon was detained as officers and EMS personnel responded to a home located on the 300 block of Catherine Street. Officers entered the home and found the victim to be bleeding from wounds to her face and left side. She was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center for treatment of her injuries.
Police said an investigation into the incident revealed that Cannon and the victim got into an argument that turned violent. According to investigators, during the dispute Cannon struck his girlfriend with a glass table, punched her and then stabbed her in the left side with a 10-inch steak knife.
Cannon was charged with attempted first and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, two counts of reckless endangerment and two counts of possession of a deadly weapon.
