Laurel Traffic Stop Leads to Pot Bust

LAUREL, Del.- Delaware State Police say two men are facing drug-related charges after they were found to be in possession of more than seven pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop in Laurel.
Chad E. Newsome, 35, of Trenton, N.J., is charged with felony possession of marijuana, second-degree conspiracy, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to signal lane charge.
Thomas M. Harrison, 31, of Los Angeles, is charged with felony possession of marijuana, second-degree conspiracy and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to police, shortly before 11 p.m. Tuesday, a trooper on routine patrol observed a Chevrolet HHR fail to signal a lane change as it traveled on southbound US 13 in Laurel. The trooper conducted a traffic stop of the car and then made contact with the driver, later identified as Newsome.
Authorities said the trooper became suspicious of Newsome and his passenger, Harrison, after questioning them and asked to search the car. Police said a search of the car uncovered a blue black duffel bag containing two cellophane wrapped packages were located in the trunk. The trooper then located four separate packages containing a total of seven pounds of marijuana inside of the cellophane wrapped packages, investigators said.

Newsome and Harrison were taken into custody and charged with the aforementioned list of charges. Newsome was ordered held in the Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $27,001 secured bond. Harrison was ordered held in SCI in default of $27,000 secured bond.
