Worcester County Calls Alabama Alcohol Purchase 'Mistake'

SNOW HILL, Md. - The Worcester County Commissioners are calling the recent purchase of alcohol from Alabama a "mistake," and not intentionally illegal.
"We actually wrote the comptroller a letter prior to purchasing it," said County Commissioner Bud Church. "We hadn't been given a response back... It was after the fact we were notified that (the Maryland Comptroller's Office) felt we were outside the per view of the law."
The transaction was made in October. The Worcester Department of Liquor Control said Alabama was in the permit process in November.
It cost the county $2,700 to ship the alcohol, currently stored in Delaware. According to officials, the cases will be returned to Alabama any day now.
The Comptroller's Office had no further comments Tuesday, reiterating that it will continue to work with the DLC on getting the proper permits issued for states like Alabama.
