Wicomico Council Votes Against Letter of Support for New Bennett Middle School

SALISBURY, Md. - The Wicomico County Council on Tuesday voted 4-3 against sending a letter to the state of Maryland for permission for the county to help fund a new Bennett Middle School.
Council President Joe Holloway said there were several factors that led to his "no" vote.
"The way the economy is right now, I think there was some concern with myself and with other council members about how we were going to fund this," he said. "We had our finance director come in to answer some questions and he did real well but there were some questions I don't think were answered fully."
The fact still remains that parents of the children that attend Bennett Middle School have been wanting a new school for the children since 2005.
"I think its ridiculous. My daughter went there, my grandson is there. They don't have air conditioning. They have to let them out early sometimes in the summer. It's terrible. They have the money to do it," said Linda Anderton of Salisbury.
Holloway said he believes there will eventually be a new school, but he does not believe that it will happen this year.
