Suicidal man apprehended by OCPD

OCEAN CITY — A potentially suicidal man was taken into custody by the Ocean City Police Department without major incident Wednesday night.
At about 1:14 a.m., police responded to a unit in the Jockey Beach Club condominium complex on 123rd Street to treat a man who had injured his hand. The man initially told police he had cut himself by accident while cooking, and another man who was in the unit appeared intoxicated and became belligerent and uncooperative.

While paramedics were treating the injured man in the parking lot, his girlfriend told police his injury was actually sustained during a struggle with the intoxicated male prior to police arrival.

The man was still in the unit, and had become very upset after having a telephone conversation with an estranged girlfriend. He was discovered by the injured man attempting to cut his wrists with a knife, and the injured man was cut accidentally while trying to wrestle the knife away from the suicidal man, police said.

Police attempted numerous times to make contact with the suicidal man, and officers eventually entered the unit and took the subject into custody without incident.

The man was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center for emergency psychological evaluation. Names of the parties were not released, since charges have not been filed, police said
