PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (WBOC/AP)- Maryland State Police have released the identity of the Somerset County man shot and killed by two state troopers during a chase Wednesday night.
Police say Terry C. Diaz, 49, of Princess Anne sustained a gunshot wound to the head. Diaz was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy will be conducted at the office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore.
Investigators said a trooper was called about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday to check out a suspicious person at Manokin Manor nursing home near Princess Anne. Troopers and Somerset County deputies responded to the area.
Police said a Somerset County deputy sheriff arrived first and tried to contact the person inside a Chevrolet Blazer. Investigators said the vehicle fled, and a pursuit ensued. Diaz fled north, south and the north again on US-13. Investigators said troopers used stop sticks and a rolling roadblock technique to force Diaz's vehicle to the median.
Investigators said two troopers approached the vehicle on foot, giving verbal commands to the driver. The two troopers then fired shots at the vehicle as they approached the car. A firearm has not been recovered from Diaz's vehicle.

Greg Shipley, PIO for Maryland State Police, said in an interview, "We will be looking at what the circumstances were, what perceived threat there was and we'll certainly be examining why the troopers did what they did."
The two state troopers who fired their weapons are both assigned to road patrol duties at the Princess Anne Barrack. Following protocol, they have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
Police said the investigation continues in this fatal shooting.
