Wicomico County State's Attorney's Message to Criminals

SALISBURY, Md. - Wicomico County State's Attorney Matt Maciarello says he wants the crime rate for the county to continue to drop.  He says law enforcement cracked down on crime in 2011, and will continue to work with multiple law enforcement operations to stop crime.
Maciarello says in 2010 the county suffered 10 homicides, and only 2 in 2011.  He says working with the Maryland State Police, and other drug centered law enforcement agencies helped a lot.
However, the question is,  "do the people feel safe?" Heather Patterson of Salisbury says the crime seems to be worse and it scares her. "I'm just very weary of what's going on who's walking around--I don't come out very often," says Patterson about how safe she feels.
Some Salisbury residents feel things have gotten better. Tia Holbrook says "I think the cops are doing a pretty good job patrolling the area and trying to keep that under control."
One thing that Maciarello is stressing is that the county wants to send a message out to criminals. Maurice Brown, a prosecuted convicted drug dealer, was sentenced to 30 years Jan. 6 2012.  A sentence Maciarello says he hoped deters criminals.
When asked what the county is doing to make the people safer Maciarello replied, "We are trying our best putting forth all the energy all of our time talent and treasure into attacking the gang issue, attacking the gun issue and attacking the violence issue and the crime issue in Wicomico County."
