Tanker bursts into flames on Route 13

PRINCESS ANNE -- Nearby businesses were evacuated and a section of northbound Route 13 was closed for several hours Tuesday after a truck loaded with kerosene flipped over and burst into flames.
The Delmarva Oil tanker truck was northbound on Route 13 when a car headed east on Mount Vernon Road failed to stop at a red light and pulled into the truck's path at about 2:30 p.m., said Princess Anne Police Chief Scott Keller.
The truck driver swerved to avoid a collision, which caused the truck to flip. The driver was able to get out before it burst into flames, he said.
"That thing was a pretty good ball of fire when we got there," Keller said.
Witnesses at the scene pushed the car and its driver, who was still inside, away from the burning truck. They also carried the truck driver further away from the fire after he collapsed in the road.
Both drivers were conscious and taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center. Keller said he was unsure of their conditions Tuesday evening
