Salisbury Mayor Expresses Concern Over Middle School

SALISBURY, Md.- The Wicomico County Council voted against sending a letter to the state for permission to help fund a new Bennett Middle School. Supporters of the proposed construction feel as though they were so close, and so much work has already been done to go forward with the project. Mayor Ireton sounded off about the decision, stating "When we try to market our neighborhoods, when we try to market jobs to bring jobs here and for people to come and take a job here, we need good schools with good reputations. Bennett has a good reputation but as everyone knows who's watching your newscast, the school is falling apart. We did one, we need to do another as fast as we can." The mayor says he feels if the construction for Bennett Middle School is stopped now, it could take up to 20 years for the talks about the school to be top priority again
