Teenage Bicyclist Struck by Van near Laurel

LAUREL,Del.- The Delaware State Police is currently investigating a serious crash involving a bicycle and a van near Laurel.
The incident happed at approximately 6:53 p.m. early Friday evening as 57-year-old Thomas S. Jolly of Georgetown was operating a 2005 Ford Econoline van westbound on Camp Road.

Police said he was stopped in the median of Sussex Highway (US 13) waiting to cross over the southbound lanes.

Authorities said as Jolly began to across, he did not see the bicyclist traveling northbound on the shoulder of the southbound lanes and struck the 13-year-old boy.

The boy was ejected from the bicycle and landed in the roadway. Jolly was able to stop his car.
The young boy who was not wearing a helmet was flown to A.I. DuPont Hospital where he is listed in stable condition.
Traffic in the area of US 13 southbound and Camp Road was impacted for approximately an hour as the crash was investigated and cleared.

The crash remains under investigation
