WASHINGTON- President Barack Obama on Sunday declared an emergency in Maryland and ordered federal agencies to help state and local governments respond to the effects of Hurricane Sandy.
The president has authorized the Federal Emergency Management Agency to aid in disaster relief efforts statewide. Emergency protective measures, limited to direct federal assistance, will be provided at 75 percent federal funding.
FEMA has appointed Michael J. Lapinski as the federal coordinating officer for federal recovery operations in the affected area.
