SEAFORD, Del.- Seaford police have arrested a 25-year-old suspect wanted in connection with two recent armed bank robberies.
Christopher L. Baker of Seaford is charged with three counts of robbery, four counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, aggravated menacing, four counts of wearing a disguise and four counts of possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited.
Baker's arrest stemmed from two bank robberies that occurred within days of each other. The most recent robbery happened shortly before 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, at the M & T Bank located on Sussex Highway.
Investigators said Baker entered the bank, displayed a handgun and demanded money from a teller. Police said the teller gave Baker an undisclosed amount of cash, at which time Baker took the money and fled the bank toward the front of the Seaford Village Shopping Center on a bicycle. No injuries were reported by bank personnel.
During their search for the suspect, officers received information that he was possibly inside the Star East Chinese Buffet restaurant. The officers went to the restaurant and took the suspect, later identified as Baker, into custody. Detectives also recovered a handgun and cash from inside the restaurant, police said.
Police said Baker was also found to be the same suspect who robbed the Bank of Delmarva at gunpoint on Friday, Jan. 6.
In addition to being charged with the aforementioned offenses, Baker was also arrested on outstanding warrants relating to the theft of metal from a construction site and several storm water grates.
He is being held in the Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $260,000 secured bond
