DOVER, Del.- Delaware lawmakers got to work Tuesday at Legislative Hall. It is an election year and the state's budget is going to be a hot issue this session. Lawmakers one major component of the budget they be taking a closer look at is the state's expenses when it comes to Medicaid.
Sen. Brian Bushweller, D-Dover, said Medicaid is on his mind since serves on the joint finance committee. He said Medicaid costs have started to shift from the federal government to a state level.
"We have to figure out ways to reducing our Medicaid expenditures without putting anybody and the low income people that depend on Medicaid in jeopardy for their health," Bushweller said.
The state will look at taking in the costs or potentially cutting parts of Medicaid's services. Bushweller said with a high unemployment rate, more people in Delaware are using Medicaid as their medical provider, but he is hopeful growth in the economy and jobs will bring that number down.
